Full-time nursery places in academies and maintained schools for vulnerable three and four-year-old children
Some primary academies and maintained schools have a limited number of full-time nursery places. These are 6.5 hours a day including lunch. Allocation of full-time places is separate from admission.
All Wandsworth schools apply the following criteria to the children they are planning to admit, where a full-time place has been requested, and a full time place is available:
- children living in the borough of Wandsworth who are recommended for a full-time nursery place by an allocated Social Worker or as part of an action plan agreed by a multidisciplinary group* such as a Team Around the Child (TAC);
- children looked after by the Local Authority e.g. a child who is fostered or in a children’s home; or
- children who are subject to special guardianship arrangements or were previously looked after by the Local Authority. A special guardianship order is an agreement made by the courts appointing one or more individuals to be a child's 'special guardian'. It is intended for those children who cannot live with their birth parents and who would benefit from a legally secure placement.
*Parents/carers who want their needs to be considered by a multi-disciplinary group (for example Team Around the Child (TACT) should contact a health professional or the local Children’s Centre who will complete an assessment of their need. An assessment using the Early Help Assessment (EHA) will be made.
