Early Years and Intervention Support Service - Siward Road

This is a multi-agency centre where specialist teams from Early Years and Intervention Support Service (EYISS), Health and voluntary organisations are based. They offer support to young children and their families who have significant or complex needs or disabilities. The aim is to ensure, through early assessment and/or intervention, that all young children with disabilities or complex needs living in Wandsworth access suitable services to support them in fulfilling their potential.

The centre can help children and their families with:

  • assessment of a child's needs that may lead to diagnosis,
  • access to therapies for example, physiotherapy, occupational therapy,
  • advice and information about other services available,
  • finding family support services,
  • use of suitable play facilities,
  • finding parents groups and training, and 
  • contact with other parents

Services available at the centre include:

  • Multi-disciplinary Assessment
  • Early Years Advisory service for settings
  • Early Support – family support service for children with complex medical needs and their families
  • Clinical Psychology (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • Early Bird programmes for qualifying parents of children on the autistic spectrum
  • Cygnet courses for parents of children with ASD 
  • Educational Psychology (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • Initial observations in a setting e.g. Nursery/School
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Parent support groups
  • Play and Development Resources (advice and support groups to encourage play, independence and social skills) which include:
    • Toy Library
    • Parent/Child activity groups
    • Down's groups                 
    • Multi-Sensory Room
    • Soft Play Room
  • Portage – a home teaching program for preschool children with significant developmental delay or disability.
  • Specialist centre based groups and assessments
  • Specialist Speech and Language Therapy for Pre-school children with complex needs

Depending on which services are involved with a child, parents or carers are invited to the centre to meet the practitioners or they will visit families at home. Where a child is referred for a multi-disciplinary assessment, an allocated professional will liaise with a parent and the child’s playgroup, nursery or school and arrange to observe them there.

What is Wandsworth’s Local Offer ?

To use this service:

The centre accepts referrals for children from birth to under 8 years old living in Wandsworth who have complex or significant needs like: developmental delay; social and communication disorder e.g. autism; or a specific medical needs e.g. cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome.

Children may be referred by any professional or a parent/carer. Professionals are now recommended to refer through the Early Help Assessment (EHA). Referrals are discussed fortnightly during term time by a team of senior practitioners representing services from Early Years, Health and therapies.

A parent/carer who wants to make a referral should contact, in first instance, a professional who already knows your child’s needs e.g. health visitor, GP or if a child is in a school or nursery, a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo).
