Reducing parental conflict
It is very important that key adults in children’s lives have good relationships with each other as this helps our children flourish and do well in life. We want our children and young people to grow up understanding what a good relationship is.
It is normal for all relationships to have some tension and disagreements. But when there is too much ongoing unresolved shouting and arguing or people giving each other silent treatment , it distresses children. These situations can damage them emotionally, behaviour is affected, their health can suffer or that they don’t do as well at school.
To help children have positive relationships in life we adults need to show them how to deal with disagreements effectively. One important way we can do this is by being healthy relationship role models, communicating well and managing our emotions so disagreements do not turn into a blazing row.
