Why choose a childminder?
Childminders provide paid-for childcare for more than two hours per day, usually in the childminder’s own home. Their duties include providing a safe, loving environment and helping with children’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development.
Registered childminders:
- have qualifications in first aid for babies and children
- are inspected by Ofsted
- have had an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Childminders set their own hours and costs. There may be reductions in the price if you use their care for a full week or if you have more than one child in their care. You can also use 15 and 30 hours of childcare support, as well as tax-free childcare, if the childminder offers them.
Once you have found a suitable childminder you will need to contact them directly, using the contact information on their page, to find out if they have availability and to discuss costs.
