World Heart Beat Music Academy
World Heart Beat Music Academy?provides high-quality music education and fulfilling personal development opportunities for all children and young people, including those from low income and disadvantaged backgrounds, living in Wandsworth and the surrounding boroughs.??The academy addresses the lack of affordable music tuition available to disadvantaged young people and opens up career pathways into the music and wider creative industries.
The academy has two venues; one at Kimber Road and the other at our music education venue World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens in Nine Elms, Battersea, which opened in January 2023 (complete with state of the art concert hall, recording studio and cafe).
Every week approx. 370 students aged 5-25 years participate in a rich programme from grassroots to early-career level, learning and performing music from a breadth of music genres, reflective of the heritages of our diverse community. This includes Jazz, Asian, Brazilian, Celtic, Eastern European, Gospel, Gypsy, Latin & Reggae music. We engage thousands more people annually through workshops with schools and community groups, and performances at local festivals and eminent music venues.??
World Heart Beat make music accessible to everyone regardless of their circumstances – 50% of their students receive full or partial bursaries to attend the academy and free instruments. In 2018, they were awarded National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status by Arts Council England, which acknowledged the quality of their work and the contribution they make to their Creative Case for Diversity and Equality.?
