Family Consultancy - Wandsworth CAMHS

Families may be offered a Telephone Consultation or a Family Consultation meeting with the Brief Family Consultancy Service to develop their ideas or a plan of action around a specific difficulty or dilemma.

We work with families, parents and young people aiming to use their strengths and skills as a family to bring about change. An action plan may be developed with things for everyone to try out, or ideas, reflections and key learning points may be made about the child/family. Family Consultancy clinicians facilitate this space and provide useful questions or reflections to support the family in reaching the goal for the session.

We offer a telephone consultation, and some families may be offered a Family Consultation session which can be held in person or online. The meeting will be 90 minutes and is led by two clinicians to add further reflections or perspectives. A letter will be sent to you following the session highlighting reflections and detailing any actions that were identified in the meeting. We typically will call parents to review how things are after an agreed period of time.

This service is provided by South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust and Wandsworth Council. Children and young people are sign posted after initial screening through the ACCESS Child and Youth Mental Health Service

ACCESS is the single point of referral and accepts referrals from professionals working with children and young people:

  • of children and young people aged 5 to 18 years
  • who are registered with a Wandsworth GP and
  • who are experiencing psychological and mental health difficulties

ACCESS accepts self referrals from young people aged 16 and 17 years
