Little Hillbrook Early Years Specialist Resource Base at Hillbrook School
Little Hillbrook is a maintained Early Years Specialist Resource Base at Hillbrook School, which caters for children between 3-5 years’ old who have been identified with cognition and learning differences alongside Social Communication differences.
We are a specialist nursery providing early intervention and support for children aged 3 and 5 years old. We cater for children who have been identified as needing further support with their Cognition and Learning Differences alongside Social Communication and Language Differences. Children do 2 and a half days ( with us each week in Nursery and full time in Reception.
Our environment is low arousal providing clear, visual structures to minimise distraction within the learning environment and this helps increase focus and learning opportunities. Class numbers are small (11 children Nursery and 7 Reception) with a high adult to child ratio.
All staff are trained in specialist strategies to assist in pupils’ communication and learning.
The school uses structured teaching approaches including TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped
Children) and Attention Autism to support learning and task completion.
Speech and language therapy and occupational therapy are an integral part of LittleHillbrook. A part time speech and language therapist and occupational therapist work closely with staff in the planning and delivery of the curriculum to support children’s communication and physical needs. Therapists also provide individual and small group support to children, training to parents and an outreach service.
In addition to a classroom, there are two sensory rooms equipped with a swing and other specialist resources, a covered outdoor area and safe surface playground.
