Therapies for children in special schools
The Special Schools Therapy team provides assessment and intervention for children and young people in special schools in Wandsworth.
These are:
These schools cater for children and young people who have a range of difficulties, which include:
- Visual Impairment/Blindness
- Significant Physical Impairments
- Communication Impairments
- Learning Difficulties
- Social Interaction Difficulties
- Feeding and Self Care Difficulties
Each school has input from Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physiotherapy (PT) according to the needs of the children who attend that school. St George's Healthcare NHS Trust employs qualified SLT, OT and PT staff as well as some unqualified assistant staff. In addition, there are in some schools assistants who are employed and/or funded by the school.

In general, children are allocated places at schools following statutory assessment of their educational needs. Many children will already be known to therapy services within the borough and to other health and education professionals.
