Sure Start Maternity Grant
The Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment of £500 to help towards costs of a new baby, which you do not have to repay. It won't affect your other benefits or tax credits.
You usually qualify for the grant if:
- you have no other children - unless you’re expecting a multiple birth (eg twins); and
- you get certain benefits
You must claim the grant within 11 weeks of expecting the baby or within 3 months after the birth. Please see GOV.UK for more details.
You can apply for a Sure Start Maternity Grant by completing claim pack SF100 (Sure Start). To get a claim pack, contact Jobcentre Plus or you can download a copy from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) website You should return your completed claim form to Jobcentre Plus or post it to the address given on the form.
