The SEND Play and Family Team

As part of the Early Years SEND Inclusion Team, the Early Years SEND Play and Family (SPF) team supports children up to 5 years of age with emerging needs and social communication difficulties, and their families, if not already attending an Early Years setting.

Children can be referred to the EY SEND Play and Family team by a professional working with the family or families can self-refer, using the SITT application form, available in the drop-down.

The SPF team aims to prepare children for group education, supporting children to acquire the social and emotional skills necessary for nursery life.

The SEND Play and Family Advisors work as part of a wider multi-professional team to support families, including colleagues from the Family Hubs and Children’s Centres, Portage, the Early Years SEND Inclusion Advisory team, the wider SEND & Inclusion Service and colleagues from health and social care.

The SEND Play and Family team offers:

Termly sessions, run by invitation.
Family Support
Transition support into settings
Referrals to further services and support, if and when needed

In addition to the above offer the SPF team also works very closely with colleagues from the Family Hubs to support the Enhanced Stay, Play and Learn sessions which run in all three clusters: Roehampton, Battersea and Tooting.

To refer a family to the SEND Play and Family team, please complete the attached referral form, with written parental consent. All referrals must be sent to [javascript protected email address]

Please note: Referrals to both Portage and the EY SEND Play and Family team will be discussed in a weekly triage meeting. The relevant team senior will contact the family, the referrer will receive a letter confirming which team will support the referred child. After contacting the family, the teams will arrange a home visit or arrange for the family to visit one of the groups on offer.

All sessions are delivered at the SEND and Inclusion Hub (1 Siward Road, SW17 0LA).
