Providence House Youth Club
Providence House Youth Club is a community charity in Clapham Junction, Battersea, supporting local young people for decades. We offer a safe, welcoming space where young people can build confidence, develop skills and connect with trusted adults. Through youth clubs, sport, mentoring, detached outreach and enrichment activities, we help young people stay safe, grow and thrive. Everything we do is shaped by young people's voices and rooted in the community we serve.
Providence House Youth Club is a community charity based on Falcon Road in Clapham Junction, Battersea. For decades we have been a place where local young people can come as they are, feel safe, and find adults who genuinely believe in them. Many of the young people we work with live on the estates around us and face real pressures, from limited opportunities and the rising cost of living to the risks of exploitation and violence. We exist to make sure they have somewhere to go, someone to talk to, and a route to a brighter future.
Youth Club
At the heart of what we do is our youth club. Throughout the week our building is open for sessions where young people can relax with friends, play sport, get creative, cook, take part in activities and simply be young in a safe environment. Every young person who attends gets a free hot meal. These sessions are led by experienced youth workers who build long-term, trusting relationships, which means we are often the first people a young person turns to when something goes wrong.
Detached and Outreach
We don't wait for young people to come to us. Our detached and outreach team works on the streets, estates and public spaces of Wandsworth, meeting young people where they are, particularly those who are not engaged with other services or who may be at risk of harm. This work helps us spot concerns early, offer support and connect young people back into positive activities.
Community Football
Football is one of the most powerful ways we connect with young people. Our community football programme offers free, accessible sessions that bring young people together, build teamwork, discipline and confidence, and give them a positive focus. It also opens the door to trusted relationships and the wider support we offer.
Mentoring and One-to-One Support
For young people who need extra help, we offer one-to-one mentoring. We take referrals and match each young person with a mentor for a year, meeting every week or every other week. Mentoring supports confidence, emotional wellbeing, family pressures, school and staying safe, and includes regular fun activities that help build a strong, trusting relationship.
Schools and Exclusion Reduction
We deliver mentoring in local schools as part of our exclusion reduction work, supporting young people at risk of exclusion to stay engaged and remain in education.
Girls Work
Our girls-only youth club offers a safe, supportive space where young women can build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging, and explore the issues that matter to them.
Holiday Programmes and Enrichment
We run holiday programmes, trips and enrichment activities that give young people experiences many would not otherwise have, from new skills and sports to days out beyond their local area.
Youth Advisory Group
Youth voice runs through everything we do, and our Youth Advisory Group puts it into practice. Members help shape our programmes, influence decisions about the club and are increasingly involved in how we are governed. We believe the people closest to the challenges often have the best ideas about the solutions, and our young people remind us of that every day.
Like many youth organisations, we are working in a tough climate. Youth services have been cut back significantly and demand for our support keeps growing. We are a small team that punches above its weight, and we are now investing in a new three-year strategy, a refreshed brand and stronger ways of measuring and sharing our impact, so we can build a sustainable future for the club.
Ultimately, our mission is simple: to give every young person who walks through our doors, or meets us on the street, the belief, support and opportunities they need to thrive. When young people feel safe, valued and heard, they grow in confidence, make positive choices and go on to contribute to the community around them. That is the change we see every week, and it is what drives us.
