RADiate SEND dance classes
The RADiate project; led by the Royal Academy of Dance, delivers dance classes to children aged 4-11 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities including; autism, moderate to severe and complex learning difficulties, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as well as those who are non-verbal.
We deliver classes within primary schools; both in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs, and as an after school class at the RAD headquarters in Battersea.
Classes are fun and creative and offer children an alternative, non-verbal way to express themselves and their individuality. Led by one of our specialist dance teachers we work in partnership with schools and parents to support each child and ensure they can progress at their own pace in a supportive and motivational environment.
Classes are designed to develop a child's personal strengths, boost their self-esteem and encourage relaxation.
Our after school classes will allow children to mix with those from different schools, make new friends and practice and develop their social skills in a new environment they take place on:
Tuesdays (during term time)
4:15-5:15pm
5:20-6:20pm
Wednesdays (during term time)
5:35-6:35pm

We invite children and their parents / carers to have fun dancing together, with everyone invited to move and get involved. This facilitated time with our specialist SEND dance artist, Laura, and team of dance assistants will develop participants’ physicality, creativity and confidence as they explore movement through exciting themes and activities, using sensory props and music to navigate the space, engage and inspire! Everyone is encouraged to interact with one another is the playful approach to movement.
All sessions are supported through the use of Makaton - a language programme that combines speech, non-verbal signs and symbols to communicate and support the routine and structure of the lesson. Makaton also helps to support participants making independent choices, to encourage turn taking, to help develop their understanding of action words and sequencing of movement and to further aid understanding and memory.
