Schools and Community Psychology Service (SCPS)

This service is for children, young people (0 to 25 years) who live in Wandsworth, who attend a Wandsworth maintained nursery or school or who are looked after by Wandsworth, and for their families and the practitioners who work with them.

We work with partners in education, health and social care in a number of different services and settings to improve inclusion and wellbeing for those with additional or special needs.

Consultation, advice and intervention are offered on:

• support for children’s learning;
• social, emotional difficulties and behaviour management
• psychological well being and mental health
• parenting and early development.

The service offers assessment of children's needs to help inform intervention and decisions about educational approaches, support and placement.

We offer critical incident support to schools where there has been a significant event effecting the emotional well being of pupils and staff.

We usually work with children, their families and other professionals to help us understand the situation and ensure a coordinated approach to change.

Where required, Educational Psychologists will use an interpreter. The service aims to meet with parents/carers and children or young people in whatever setting is most convenient and accessible.

As a council based traded service, we work with children and young people who live in Wandsworth and are undergoing an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA), those who have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and have been flagged to us by Special Needs Assessment Service (SNAS), or those who attend a Wandsworth school that directly commissions our service including: 

• Individuals (0-25 years of age) and groups of CYP especially those who are vulnerable or who have additional or special needs
• Adults who care for and educate children & young people in both educational and community settings

We provide a statutory service to all maintained schools in Wandsworth and a range of commissioned services to:

• The virtual school for children looked after
• The Early Years Service
• The ACCESS (CAMHS) service
• Wandsworth Autism Advisory Service
• University training provider

Children's Centres & Under 5s Service - Wandsworth Schools & Community Psychology Service

The under 5s service work with young people presenting with concerns about their development, and their families, to support and help with their development.

Referrals are made through professionals only for young people aged 0-5 years old and their families. This is available across all Children Centres in Wandsworth and Outreach based.

Primary Mental Health Workers 

This is a service provided by members of schools and psychology community service. 

The service includes a variety of interventions including; Family therapy, Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Looking at what works best for the young person.

This service is delivered in the school the young person attends, and is available to all schools in Wandsworth.
