DUST (Drug Use Screening Tool)
DUST is a Drug and Alcohol screening tool.
The tool is for all professionals who work with young people to use, to assess a young person at risk from drug and alcohol use.
The DUST tool uses a format of questions with a simple scoring grid. This allows practitioners to:
- address the young persons substance use;
- social situation;
- behaviours; and
- their physical and psychological health.
DUST is designed for use with young people about whom there may be concerns regarding drug and alcohol use, it will not provide a comprehensive substance use assessment but it will indicate when specialist advice should be sought and help identify risk factors.
