Early Years SEND Inclusion Advisory Team

The Early Years SEND Inclusion Advisory Team (EYSIAT) works alongside Early Years practitioners in settings across the Early Years sector including PVIs, childminders and schools, up until the end of Reception. We help identify SEND needs with a focus on early intervention and support practitioners to develop their inclusive practice for children with SEND.

We are part of the wider Early Years Inclusion Team, with the Send, Play and Family (SPF) and Portage teams and we work closely with other Wandsworth multi-agency services such as WAAS, Speech and Language Therapy, WSSS and Educational Psychologists. We are also involved in a number of innovative projects such as Nursery Inclusion Project for All (NIPA) and the Enhanced Reception Transition Project (ERTP).

How do we work?

We begin with a consultation meeting with the Senco, EY Lead or Head teacher.  During this we discuss how SEND inclusion works in the setting.  Together, we then shape a SEND Consultation and Action Plan for the year and agree a level of support that meets the setting’s needs tailored to their children and staff: universal, targeted or SEND+:

Universal:

  • Access to online training via Dingleys Promise
  • SEND training offer bookable via Wandsworth
  • Access to printable resources via the Early Years website
  • Termly Advisory Cluster meetings
  • EY Inclusion Conferences
  • Offer of consultation meeting with an Advisor

Targeted (Following on from a consultation and/or referrals to request):

  • Advisory support for individual children
  • Observation visits
  • SEND inclusion environment audit
  • Advice around SEND Inclusion processes including SENIF, TAC meetings, IEPs and completing One Page Profiles.

SEND+

Settings with high levels of SEND need may benefit from a

SEND+ Consultation and Action Plan. This will be tailored to

meet the specific needs of the setting.

Some key ways we support

  • Creating Inclusive Environments:
  • Capturing the Child’s Voice:  ideas on how to develop a holistic understanding of each child that reflects their individual interests, strengths, and challenges.
  • Building Staff Confidence: advice and training that keeps practitioners up to date with best practice, current research and pathways to specialist support.
  • Collaborative Planning: we can model and facilitate Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings to ensure swift, joined up support when more complex SEND needs are identified.
  • Working in Partnership: we are dedicated to working in close partnership with parents and carers to achieve the best outcomes for every child and can support settings with advice on best practice on improving their welcome, transition and feedback communications.

Training We Offer

We run a wide range of training sessions throughout the year at the SEND Inclusion Hub and online. This includes ‘New to EY SENCO’, ‘EY SEND Inclusion Training Passport’ and Dingley’s Cafes. These can be booked via our website or S4S.

We also host Early Years SEND events throughout the year which are bookable online.

Each term we will invite settings to attend an Advisory Cluster Meeting.

Referrals:

Specific parental/carers consent is required if settings wish to discuss individual children.  Referrals should be discussed with parents and, when complete sent to:  [javascript protected email address]

Referrals are triaged weekly.  An Advisor may then observe the child at the setting and then make recommendations to support their SEND needs.  Written feedback will be provided that can be shared with parents/carers and other supporting professionals.
