Welcare Child and Family Support Service

Welcare provide practical and emotional support and advice, individual one-to-one work and group work programmes. We support families facing multiple disadvantages, including, domestic abuse, family breakdown, mental health low income, and social isolation. Working alongside parents and carers helping them use their strengths and skills to nurture secure and confident children.

Welcare is a registered charity that provides practical and emotional support children up to the age of 13 and their families. We help children and families overcome challenges, strengthen relationships, and build resilience. 

Our Family Support Service offers a whole family approach and is designed to empower families to reach their full potential. We are a professional, confident and creative support service and all our services are supervised by our Head of Practice, who is a senior social worker and designated safeguarding lead. With their expertise we are able to support families in complex and challenging circumstances while managing all aspects of safeguarding.

Welcare’s Family Support Workers support children and families through delivering tailored 1:1 family support, evidence-based group programmes and practical support. Using trauma-informed, strengths based approaches, Welcare helps families build resilience, improve relationships and access essential services, preventing issues from escalating and enabling children to thrive within safer, more stable family environments.

Inclusion Information


Referral Information

Any family with at least one child up to the age of 13 can receive support from Welcare. We will assess what help we are able to provide on a case by case basis.

We take referrals from both professionals and from families directly. Professional referrals may come from social services, schools, health visitors, other voluntary agencies, GPs, etc. provided consent from the family has been given.

Our Family Support Service in Wandsworth offers a whole family approach and is designed to empower families to reach their full potential. 

We work with children and families affected by:

  • Domestic abuse and its lasting impact
  • Parental conflict and relationship difficulties
  • Parents experiencing challenges in parenting
  • Mental health, emotional and well-being challenges
  • Social isolation and lack of support networks
  • Low income and the cost-of-living crisis

All Welcare Family Support Workers are fully trained in trauma‑informed practice to offer holistic support to the whole family. They help children and families through:

Individual One-to-One Family Support: a tailored service that works directly with families on a one-to-one basis. It focuses on the needs of the whole family, offering practical and emotional support to help them overcome challenges and build resilience.

Groupwork programmes, including:

  • Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit (also offered on a 1:1 basis)
  • Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
  • Caring Dads

Practical Support: support with navigating services, supermarket vouchers, and accessing emergency funding.
