Early Education and Childcare Places (EECP) for 3- and 4-Year-Olds in Wandsworth

Early Education and Childcare Places are available in Wandsworth for 15 hours per week in a number of different nurseries including local authority schools.

Choosing Early Education in Wandsworth (new version currently unavailable) includes information on places in the state, voluntary and independent sector.

The closing date for applications for nursery places within a primary school in September 2024 was Monday 5 February 2024.

To get a place:

  • if your child currently attends a nursery or pre-school playgroup, ask the manager if they are registered to provide early education and childcare places.  If they are, you will be asked to sign a form confirming the hours your child attends. Places in a preschool, private or independent nursery are available in the school term after your child turns three.
  • if you would like your child to attend a maintained school nursery, please apply directly to the nurseries you would like them to attend.  Wandsworth local authority nursery schools and classes offer a 15 hour place for children from the September after their third birthday.

Your child can have a place in a maintained nursery starting in the September after they turn three.   Applications need to be with the maintained nurseries you would like your child to attend by early February before the September you want them to start at the school.

You can apply to as many nurseries as you wish, but should include the ones closest to where you live as these are where you are most likely to be offered a place.

Some schools may offer a January intake, parents should contact the schools direct to discuss this.

To find out more, you can download a copy of the brochure "Choosing Nursery Education in Wandsworth" (under 'Downloads'), or search below for nurseries registered to provide places.

If you would like general advice and guidance on applying for a place, please contact the Early Education and Childcare Places Service.

Some children can claim up to 30 hours of Education and Childcare Places. This will be providing their parents meet the eligibility criteria. The Government's current criteria requires all parents in the household to be working more than 16 hours a week at the national minimum or living wage, and up to a maximum salary of £100,000 a year per parent.

Not all childcare providers will be offering 30 hours in the borough of Wandsworth.
