Who we are
Our service is a multi-agency team with professionals from education, teaching, SEND, Speech and language therapy, multi therapy team, occupational therapy and psychology service. We also work with teams across the Multi-disciplinary assessment team (MDA). Our service is formed of three key areas to ensure we have and offer a comprehensive service. Advisory, Psychology and Therapy Team.
The advisory team is made up of 4 advisors, Andrew, Catherine, Laurain and Sonia. Together the advisors who work within the Wandsworth Autism Advisory Team have extensive experience supporting families, children and young people on the Autism Spectrum. They comprise a specialist team of highly skilled practitioners with experience working in schools, teaching, nurseries and voluntary settings, to ensure that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential in all areas of development including academic, social and emotional wellbeing.
The advisory team are our lead trainers in collaboration with our educational partners the ‘’ Autism Education Trust’’. In addition, our advisors provide crucial support, advice and guidance to schools and settings on a range of other training including; using autism approaches to enhance schools offer, emotional regulation, sensory difficulties and an enhanced offer to schools and settings on inclusive practices. The advisory team provide a crucial support to prevent school breakdowns, upskilling whole school teams and empowering families as well as professionals.

Charlotte: Assistant Psychologist
‘’After a brief career Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) I qualified as a primary school teacher and worked across a range of mainstream and specialist settings, including as a SENCO and Lead Teacher. I also have a decade of experience as a volunteer youth worker and club leader for teenagers and young adults with various learning disabilities. I worked as a trainee educational psychologist and assistant educational psychologist and I ran the Early Bird Plus parenting programme and authored a resource pack called ‘My Autism Journey’ which is aimed at students in upper Key Stage 2 to explore their autism diagnosis. I am passionate about developing the independence and communication skills of learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and supporting other parents and carers of children with additional needs. I am now the WAAS parent offer lead’’
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Makaton signing: Levels 1 & 2, TEACCH, Mental Health First Aid and Licensed Early Bird Plus Parenting Programme accredited trainer.
Rose: Educational and Child Psychologist
‘’Working in the Wandsworth Autism Advisory Service on Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons. HCPC registered Educational Psychologist (EP). Before this, I worked as an Assistant Educational Psychologist and a Residential Keyworker in a special residential secondary school for autistic female pupils. Additionally, I have worked with vulnerable groups of children and adults across a variety of settings in the UK and abroad.
I am particularly interested in supporting and empowering autistic girls and women in their education and beyond and using person centred approaches to ensure support is tailored to individual's personal needs. Other professional interests include trauma informed practices and supporting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. I advocate using strength and solution-based approaches to help promote inclusion and create positive change for children, young people, families, schools, and communities. ‘’
Jane: Assistant psychologist
Prior to joining the Wandsworth Autism Advisory Service, I worked as a therapeutic keyworker in a CAMHS residential unit. I have also worked as an assistant child psychotherapist in primary schools and I have worked across a diverse range of primary and secondary mainstream and special schools, in London and abroad, supporting children and teenagers with various learning, social and emotional needs, which included autism.
I have a particular interest in the impact that a child’s emotional mental health has on their social and learning development. My passion is in supporting the emotional and social needs of children by giving them the necessary skills to enable them to feel content and confident in themselves, their environment and to help them feel supported by the people that surround them to enable them to reach their potential and thrive as individuals.

Solution Circles: Offered for those areas that have become stuck and require input from a range of professionals to come up with solutions.
Leah: Highly specialist speech and language therapist
‘’I have 8 years’ experience working within both the private sector and within NHS trusts. I have worked with a range of children with speech, language and communication needs for over 8 years however my specialism has focused on children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD). I have supported children in both mainstream schools and specialist provisions.
Expertise include: SCERTS, social thinking, attention autism, zones of regulation, word aware and many more. Professional registration includes: member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (MRCSLT); Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Kate: Highly specialist Occupational Therapist: I have 5 years’ experience working within the NHS and for Local Authorities as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist. During this time, I have developed a specialism in the area of autism working with children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum (ASC) in a range of settings including clinics, mainstream schools and specialist provisions. I strive to carry out interventions that are child-led, playful and linked to functional goals. I am passionate about working collaboratively with educators, parents and carers in order to develop holistic and meaningful outcomes for children and young people. Expertise includes: Ayres’ Sensory Integration Therapy (PgCert), Sensory circuits, SCERTS, Zones of Regulation, Interoception curriculum and many more. Professional registration includes: Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)); Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Barbora: Multi Therapy Assistant
Specialist in Linguistics focusing on first/second language acquisition, child development, augmentative and alternative communication, speech impairment and language processing, Experience include working at a specialist nursery for children with autism. Clinical Skills include; attention Autism and other aspects of speech and language therapy as well as various extensive training in occupational health for children with Autism, exploring the sensory processing issues along with other comorbidities. Other training includes: ELKLAN Communication Support for Verbal Pupils with ASD, AET - Good Autism Practice, AET- Making sense of Autism and NHS St. George’s trust- Occupational Therapy for Schools
Shona: Multi Therapy Assistant
Extensive experience working with children and young people. Other experience includes a placement abroad as well as working in mainstream schools. Other experience includes working in residential care for looked after children focusing on providing emotional and behavioural support, working closely with the local authorities including social services to provide the best care possible for children and young people. Also experienced in working in rehabilitation with children and young people who have acquired brain injuries implementing specialised speech and language, occupational therapy and physiotherapy programmes. Training includes B.S. Psychology, NVQ Level 2 diploma in Residential Childcare, NCFE Level 1 Counselling Interpersonal Skills, ELKLAN Communication Support for Verbal Pupils with ASD, AET - Good Autism Practice and AET- Making sense of Autism.
We are also in the process of recruiting another speech and language therapist to join our team.
The therapy team endeavours to support, educate and empower children/young people on the Autistic spectrum as well as their families and school settings.
We are a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about ensuring positive outcomes for children and young/people on the autistic spectrum.
