Crisis Payment
A crisis payment can help with the cost of items and services that you need as a consequence of a disaster.
In addition, in both emergency and disaster situations a crisis payment can help with the following:
- Sainsbury's vouchers
- repaying emergency credit on a pre-payment fuel metre
Disasters are events of great or sudden misfortune, resulting in significant damage, destruction or loss of possessions or property. For example: flooding, gas explosion; chemical leak; fire.
The following are examples of what might be considered to be a crisis: a disaster; loss of money, for example through a robbery or burglary.
To be eligible you must be in receipt of a relevant benefit:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
- Pension Credit
You will need to be a Wandsworth resident, and you must be able to provide evidence of this, and of your identity.
Your application will be considered if a crisis payment is the only way which can prevent serious damage or risk to you or your family in an emergency or disaster.
A crisis payment is meant to help you over a period of crisis, and it might not solve the crisis altogether. You will be paid in grocery or store vouchers, or by goods or services (which the Council have already paid for).
If you would like to apply please see the website for more information and for the application form.
