Shared Lives (Certitude)
Shared Lives is a lesser known alternative to home care and care homes for disabled adults and older people run by Certitude, a charity helping people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs.
Shared Lives gives people with learning disabilities the opportunity of living with a Shared Lives Carer in their home. The service has a number of approved carers trained and supported to provide care in their own home for people with learning disabilities. This can be either a long-term arrangement or on a respite basis, which may be a day, a weekend or a few weeks at a time. Shared Lives supports over 1200 people in London.
For people who like the idea of being with a family during their period of respite this can be an ideal arrangement. Most respite carers live in Wandsworth or close by, but some have homes outside London.
Certitude offers assistance in the following areas:
- Learning disability support
- Mental health support
- Carers support
- Residential respite and short breaks
