Wandsworth Housing Benefit
This is a benefit which will help you pay the rent on your home. Housing benefit can pay up to 100 per cent of your rent. This benefit can be paid on either council or private housing.
This benefit is for people on low incomes.
To decide on the amount of benefit you will receive, the council will look at:
- your family income;
- your age;
- the size of your family and their ages;
- whether you or any of your family are disabled; and
- whether anyone who lives with you could help with the rent.
If you are a council tenant, the council will pay your housing benefit straight into your rent account. If you're not a council tenant, your rent can be paid directly to your landlord, to you by cheque or by Direct Payment into your bank or building society account.
To apply for the benefit, you will need to drop in or telephone the council or visit the Wandsworth website. You will need to provide: proof of your identity such as passport, birth certificate; and proof of any other benefits you receive.
