Dance classes for children with SEND from the RADiate project

The RADiate project; led by the Royal Academy of Dance, delivers dance classes to children aged 4-11 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities including; autism, moderate to severe and complex learning difficulties, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as well as those who are non-verbal. We deliver classes within primary schools; both in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs, and  an after school class at the RAD headquarters in Battersea.

Classes are fun and creative and offer children an alternative, non-verbal way to express themselves and their individuality. Led by one of our specialist dance teachers we work in partnership with schools and parents to support each child and ensure they can progress at their own pace in a supportive and motivational environment. Classes develop a child's personal strengths, boost their self-esteem and encourage relaxation and fun.

Our after school classes will allow children to mix with those from different schools, make new friends and practice and develop their social skills in a new environment. Students who are studying on the Royal Academy of Dance's teaching degree programme help support children in the class which also helps to facilitate children's independence.

We have two weekly classes that take place at RAD HQ led by one of our specialist dance artists. The first class is for 4-8 year olds and the second class is for 9-12 year olds. These sessions aim to engage children and young people through dance, movement, music and sensory props, and to develop their physicality and boost their self-esteem. Each class is created to respond to the individual needs of the children.

The details of the classes are:

  • Age 4-8 – Wednesdays - 5.35pm till 6.35pm
  • Age 9-12 - Tuesdays - 5.25pm till 6.25pm
  • Cost: £3.50

Venue (for both) Royal Academy of Dance, 36 Battersea Square, London, SW11 3RA.
