Oakdene - Residential Unit

Oakdene provides overnight short breaks for children and young people aged from 5, though more usually from 8 to 18 years. All the children and young people, who use the service have moderate to severe learning difficulties as well as associated physical or medical needs, sensory impairments and some have challenging behaviours.

Oakdene believe that every child is an individual with the right to enjoy a normal pattern of life within the community appropriate to his/her age.  Oakdene is dedicated to ensuring this is achieved for all of the children and young people who use this provision.

Oakdene is a unique place, providing  high quality care in a safe, stimulating environment, where all children and young people are valued for who they are. Staying at Oakdene offers children and young people an opportunity to spend time with friends, make new friends, and to enjoy new experiences while families have a much needed break.

Oakdene provide one, two, or three night stays every five weeks depending on your child or young person’s age and family situation. Children and young people usually stay as part of a group so they will be able to build friendships and confidence in knowing that they will see familiar people.

Requests for social care which includes Oakdene, can be made through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), on 020 8871 6622 mash@wandsworth.gov.uk ,  through the special school the child or young person attends or by parents or carers asking MASH for a  Children and Family Assessment, with a view to short breaks.

A Children and Family Assessment is a social work assessment, which includes assessing whether there is a need for overnight short breaks.
